The Watcher (Medium format project, spring '07)
Being the watcher, the observer, one isn't quite counted for, not part of what's going on. Seen as too fickle and lightweight for real responsibility. Standing on the verge between the safety of the lit up area in front and the unknown darkness behind you, it's easier to be the watcher sometimes, harder to take part. (Part of my Degree project.)
The wonderland subsided (Part of 'self project' Apr/May '06)
This series is part of the "Self project" (more in the paint section under 'projects') It was shot on my birthday the 14th of April '06 in the Knockranny woods outside of Westport. I used a tripod and a slow shutter speed. I set the camera on 20 sec countdown so that I could take my position in front of the lens. It is dealing with my heritage, being from Sweden and having grown up close to nature. It also deals with feelings of being unsafe, being watched, and if something happens to you in the forest, the body isn't easily found. I didn't have these feelings in the remote forests back home, but this forest is well frequented by people and their presence makes me feel more unsafe. This is contrasted by the fairytale like beauty of the location. I am referencing Stephen Loughman's series of paintings called "The Forest" and the Swedish photographer Annika Von Hausswolff.

Sequence project. (Nov/Dec '05)
Brief: We were to think widely about the notion of sequence. Using a technique of our choice, we had to present a series of photographs dealing with sequence.
I choose to work with the camera on a tripod, shooting at night using a slow shutter speed and a small aperture. I used a shutter release button not to shake the camera. I was interested in the different types of artificial light that one would come across at night and how a town filled with Christmas shoppers could appear almost empty when people rushed too fast to register on the film. I used my Nikon F80 35mm camera with 200 ASA and 100 ASA film. I decided to write the aperture and shutter data onto the pictures to emphasize the time it took shooting them.
