2009/2010
Group project curated by architect Aoife Considine. Happenings, talks and exhibitions to highlight and discuss the changes in the Galway urban landscape, focusing on the Docklands area of the town. Participating artists: Aideen Barry, Jennifer Cunningham, Cian McConn, Cecilia Danell, Jim Ricks, Jenny Moran and Michelle Browne.
I have focused on the rigid modernist qualities of the two car parks adjacent to the Dock and the views from their roofs. I am referencing Utopian and Dystopian visions of man-made spaces, which fill a certain function, while remaining largely overlooked. The notion of being a watcher and observer, while harbouring feelings of detachment and otherness is a recurring theme in my work. This is accentuated by the process of systematically distancing myself from the initial source material, blurring the boundaries between universal and personal, known and unknown, reality and fiction.
