I recently completed a Percent for Art project in Linköping, Sweden. Commissioned by Lejonfastigheter and Kultur och Fritid Linköping under the Percent for Art Scheme, the commission features two site-specific paintings for a new supported living building in Ekängen, Linköping, Sweden.
‘Sommarljuset’ (The Summer Light) 200×200 cm, 2026
The nature surrounding Ekängen (the oak meadow), features a lot of oak trees and the paintings are based on research documentation at nearby Tvärskogsudde by lake Roxen. Swedish poet Tomas Tranströmer lived and worked here in the 60’s and wrote several poems describing the local landscape, which also fed into the work. I wanted to create artworks that made the residents feel as if they could step into the landscape, and spark an interest in the nature of the locality. Since the locations that inspired the paintings are situated along a recreational trail, it will be possible to seek them out in real life too.
‘Fridfulla stenar’ (Peaceful Stones) 120×180 cm, 2026
Oil and acrylic on cotton canvas stretched over wooden panels with an oak strip frame. ‘Sommarljuset’ (The Summer Light) 200×200 cm, 2026 ‘Fridfulla stenar’ (Peaceful Stones) 120×180 cm, 2026 . Thank you to Linda Staaf, Public art curator Linköping City Council Arts Office and Ola Hedberg, Project Manager Lejonfastigheter for leading this project and to Johan Sundberg at Skanska for doing the installation.
